Submissions
Submission Preparation Checklist
All submissions must meet the following requirements.
- The manuscript follows the journal's Author Guidelines and is within the journal's aims and scope.
- The work is original, has not been published before, and is not under consideration by another journal.
- The manuscript file is anonymized for double-anonymous review, and the author names, affiliations and ORCID iDs are given on a separate title page.
- The declarations on funding, competing interests, data availability, author contributions, ethics approval and any use of generative AI are included.
- All references are complete and accurate, with DOIs where available, and all figures and tables are numbered and cited in the text.
- Permission has been obtained to publish any photographs, figures, datasets or other material owned by others.
Research Articles
Research Articles report complete, original studies that advance the understanding or application of materials. They are typically 4,000–8,000 words long (excluding references), with an abstract of up to 250 words and 4–6 keywords, and undergo double-anonymous peer review by at least two independent reviewers.
Review Articles
Review Articles provide authoritative, critical syntheses of an active area of materials science or engineering, identifying open questions and future directions. They are typically 6,000–12,000 words long with an abstract of up to 300 words, and are peer reviewed in the same way as research articles. Authors are encouraged to send a short proposal to the editorial office before writing a review.
Short Communications
Short Communications report urgent or significant findings concisely, in no more than 3,000 words with an abstract of up to 150 words. They are peer reviewed in the same way as research articles.
Perspectives
Perspectives offer forward-looking discussion of emerging directions in materials research and engineering. They are typically 2,000–4,000 words long with an abstract of up to 200 words, are published by invitation or after a pre-submission enquiry to the editorial office, and are peer reviewed.

Authors who publish in the International Journal of Materials Innovation and Engineering (IJMIE) agree to the following terms:
- Authors retain the copyright of their work and grant the journal the right of first publication. The work is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0), which allows anyone to share and adapt it, including for commercial purposes, provided the authors and the original publication in IJMIE are credited.
- Authors confirm that the work is original, that they have the right to publish it, that it does not infringe the rights of others, and that all co-authors have approved its submission.
- Where the manuscript includes material owned by others, such as figures or tables, the authors have obtained permission to publish it under CC BY 4.0 and acknowledge its source.
- Authors may deposit the submitted, accepted and published versions of their work in institutional or subject repositories and share them on personal or scholarly websites, without embargo, with an acknowledgement of first publication in IJMIE.

This statement explains how the International Journal of Materials Innovation and Engineering (IJMIE) collects, uses, and protects the personal data of authors, reviewers, editors, and readers, in line with the principles of data-protection legislation including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The names, email addresses, affiliations, and other details entered on this journal site are collected to enable the scholarly publishing process — the management of submissions, peer review, editorial communication, publication, and indexing.

- To operate the editorial and peer-review workflow and to communicate with you about your submission or review.
- To publish author names, affiliations, and (where provided) ORCID iDs and biographies as part of the scholarly record.
- To register article metadata with Crossref and indexing/discovery services.
- To send, only with your consent, occasional notifications such as calls for papers or new-issue alerts.
What We Do Not Do
The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with third parties except where necessary to deliver the publishing service (e.g. Crossref for DOI registration) or where required by law.
Cookies
The site uses only the cookies strictly necessary for the platform to function (e.g. to keep you logged in). No advertising or third-party tracking cookies are set by the journal.
Data Retention
Personal data associated with submissions and published articles is retained as part of the permanent scholarly record. Account data is retained for as long as the account remains active.
