Aims and Scope

IJMIE provides a rigorous, timely and globally accessible venue for materials research, bridging the gap between materials discovery and real-world engineering. The journal welcomes experimental, theoretical and computational work that links the structure, processing and properties of materials to their performance in engineering applications.

Subject areas include metals and alloys; ceramics and glasses; polymers and composites; nanomaterials and 2D materials; energy materials; biomaterials; electronic, magnetic and optical materials; materials processing and additive manufacturing; computational and data-driven materials science; sustainable and circular materials; and characterization and structural integrity. Full details are given in Aims & Scope.

Article Types

  • Research ArticlesComplete, original studies that advance the field.
  • Review ArticlesAuthoritative, critical syntheses of an active research area.
  • Short CommunicationsConcise reports of urgent or significant findings.
  • PerspectivesForward-looking discussion of emerging directions, by invitation or after a pre-submission enquiry.
  • EditorialsCommentary from the editors, by invitation.

Manuscript preparation and submission requirements are set out in the Author Guidelines.

Open Access and Licensing

All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0), which allows anyone to read, download, share and adapt the work, provided the original authors and source are credited. Authors retain the copyright of their work. See the Open Access Policy and Copyright and Licensing.

Peer Review

All research content undergoes double-anonymous peer review: the identities of authors and reviewers are withheld from one another, and each manuscript is assessed by at least two independent experts. Editorial decisions are based solely on originality, scientific quality, validity and relevance to the journal's scope.

  • 5–10 daysInitial editorial (desk) decision
  • 4–8 weeksFirst decision after review
  • 2–4 weeksAcceptance to online publication

These are target times. The full process is described in the Peer Review Process.

Publication Ethics and Research Integrity

IJMIE follows the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing. Every submission is screened for similarity before review, and suspected misconduct is handled according to COPE guidance. See the Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement, the Plagiarism Policy and the Editorial Policies.

Fees

There is no submission fee, and no charge is made during peer review. An Article Processing Charge (APC) is payable only after a manuscript has been accepted, to cover peer-review management, production, open-access hosting and long-term preservation. Full or partial waivers are available to authors from low- and lower-middle-income countries and to authors without research funding, on request at submission. Editors and reviewers are not told of an author's payment or waiver status, and payment has no influence on editorial decisions.

Ownership and Management

IJMIE is published by Dr. S. Mayakannan (Bhavani, Erode, Tamil Nadu, India) and managed by its editorial office under the direction of the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board, who are solely responsible for editorial decisions. The publisher is responsible for operating, hosting and preserving the journal and has no role in decisions on individual manuscripts.

Revenue Sources and Advertising

The journal is funded by article processing charges. It does not accept advertising or sponsorship that could influence editorial decisions, and any direct marketing, such as calls for papers, is accurate and never misleading about the journal's indexing, metrics or peer review.

Indexing and Preservation

IJMIE is a new journal, and its article metadata is openly available to indexing and discovery services through OAI-PMH and Google Scholar citation tags. Its current indexing status is kept up to date under Indexing and Abstracting, and its preservation arrangements are described under Archiving and Digital Preservation.
